Static caravans also need a good clean at least once a year to protect their outer shell.

If your caravan or motorhome has been in storage or even if you have been using it throughout the winter you will find that its bodywork can be covered in green algae, dirt, smears and leaves which doesn’t look good and isn’t great for its paintwork if not cleaned off. There may be a dull tone to its exterior and you need to get it back to its former glory of last year. It’s also a good idea to give your entire caravan or motorhome a good clean inside at least once a year and our products are brilliant for both inside and out of your caravan or motorhome.

What products should you use?

There are lots of bespoke static caravan, caravan and motorhome cleaning products you can use, however, Eco Solutions products are brilliant and suitable for the job. They are water-based, non-toxic and good for the environment, they won’t damage your caravan or motorhome or impact the environment when they run into the ground when you are cleaning it.

Using Eco Solutions Grime Go will leave your static caravan, caravan or motorhome looking like it’s been professionally cleaned inside and out and you’ll be ready for the season ahead.

Grime Go removes all types of grease, oil, dirt, stains, adhesive residues and paint splashes.

It is suitable for all types of surfaces but we always advise that you test on a small area first.

Your Outside Static Caravan, Caravan or Motorhome Clean

Your Professional Annual Clean – Set up Caravan or Motorhome

To make the job as easy as possible for you to position your caravan or motorhome so you can walk all around it with ease. Remember the dirt you remove will run off onto the ground it is on so always be prepared to clean this area after you have finished.

If you can use your steadies to make one end lower than the other then this will allow the dirt to run off more easily but always ensure it is completely stable.

The roof will most likely be the dirtiest and where the green algae and dirt will really gather so you should start here so when the dirt runs off it doesn’t ruin your hard work. You must be really prepared to ensure you are safe when cleaning.

Some manufacturers and professional caravan cleaners say you can walk on the roof of most newer caravans and motorhomes but we would say this is still unsafe. The roof will be wet and slippery so you are more likely to slip off and seriously injure yourself. Use a sturdy step ladder or a telescopic ladder and never clean your caravan or motorhome on your own, you should always have someone else with you to hold the ladder when you are cleaning the roof or higher areas. Get yourself a sturdy long-handled mop, a long-handled soft brush or even a telescopic water-fed brush is great for hard-to-reach places.

You can use the mop or soft brush to spread the cleaner over the roof surface and high points of your caravan or motorhome and this means you won’t need to climb up and stand on the roof.

Your Professional Annual Clean – Hose Down

Start by hosing down the whole caravan or motorhome with cold water which will loosen any dirt, moss and leaves. We wouldn’t advise you to jet wash as this can damage the surface and any silicone and seals around your windows.

Your Professional Annual Clean – Use your Cleaning Product

Spray your static caravans, caravan or motorhome with Grime Go starting with the roof. Use your ladder and mop to work the product over the roof and higher up areas. Work in so all areas are covered with the product and use your mop and a sponge to focus on areas which are really dirty or have green algae. Open windows and roof lights and wipe round these with a sponge to ensure the window casings are also clean. Leave it to work its magic for 20 minutes and then wash the Grime Go off with a hose. Continue in sections until you have cleaned and washed the Grime Go off the whole caravan.

Your Professional Annual Clean – Dry

You can use a flexible silicone blade to remove any excess water but we wouldn’t advise you use these on the windows, you can dry your windows with a microfibre cloth which will prevent any smears or watermarks.

Your Professional Annual Clean – Polish

When your caravan or motorhome has dried you may decide you want to polish it and this is more likely to be needed on older models.

As a caravan or motorhome ages, the paintwork oxidises from the sun’s rays and this can make the outside surface look dull. In these cases, you may need a caravan or motorhome polishing product which corrects the oxidation process. This shouldn’t need to be done after every wash and no more than once a year.

Apply a thin layer of the polish to the paintwork in overlapping circles, avoiding any silicon and rubber seals. You can normally polish out ingrained marks and scratches using a polish.

Leave it to work as per the instructions and then buff the surface with a soft cloth.

Clean Your Caravan or MotorhomeYour Professional Annual Clean – Wax

Wax acts as protection for the surface and paintwork of your caravan or motorhome keeping out the dirt and the shine in.

Apply a thin layer of wax to sections, leave it to work as per the manufacturer’s instructions and then buff off.

You will know the areas you have waxed as water will run off the surface in beads.

Your Professional Annual Clean – Windows

Spray the windows with a glass type cleaner or white wine vinegar and then buff dry with a microfibre cloth. The windows on newer models are mostly made of acrylic and will scratch really easily so be really careful there is no grit on your cloth when cleaning them.

Your Professional Annual Clean – Wheels

Wash your wheels with a hose and cold water. Spray them with your Grime Go and leave it to work for 20 minutes. Rub the wheels with a sponge to wipe off any ingrained dirt and then wash off again with a hose and cold water.

Cleaning the bodywork of your static caravan, caravan or motorhome like this every year will protect it from the elements and dirt and actually makes it easier for you to clean next time. It also protects the exterior bodywork keeping it looking fresh and shiny all year round.

Regularly hose down your caravan or motorhome throughout the year and this will also make your annual clean a lot easier.

Your Inside Static Caravan, Caravan or Motorhome Clean

The inside of your caravan or motorhome will be a bit musty after being in storage and not being used over the winter.

Clean the inside of your caravan on a dry day and this means you can open the windows and doors to circulate fresh air inside.
