Customer Question:

Can this product be used if the substrate behind the artex is asbestos sheeting?

Homestrip Manufacturer Seller Answer:

If you mean just plasterboard without plaster on it then yes it has been used many times in this instance. Care does have to be taken though when you get down to that surface not to be over-aggressive as you can damage the paper surface.

Customer Question:

Will ExTex affect the plaster underneath the Artex?

Homestrip Manufacturer Seller Answer:

X-Tex won’t affect the underlying plaster surface. If the plaster is in good order you won’t have any issues

Customer Answer:

No, it shouldn’t affect the plaster underneath the artex. It makes the artex damp so you can scrape it off the plaster. If your artex is very thick it might need two applications, but it works well! I’d use it again.

Customer Answer:

No – plaster was not affected when I removed the artex – the scraper may “rough it up” slightly though.

Customer Answer:

Based on my previous DYI jobs, the answer is no. X-Tex did not damage the plaster. In fact, the scrap blade may potentially do that, if force is applied without accuracy. Thank you.

Customer Answer:

I used it on a bedroom ceiling did not affect the plaster

Customer Question:

Would this be ok to use on artexed wooden beams?

Homestrip Manufacturer Seller Answer:

Yes, it would be fine for removing Artex from beams. X-Tex won’t damage the wooden surface. Depending on how old the beams are there is the possibility of them being covered in a dark stain also. X-Tex will also remove this. If you require any further assistance please call the technical helpline number on the label and they can advise.

Customer Answer:

I would say yes / it basically turns it into a thick sludge you scrape off – so can’t see backing material making a huge difference – not sure if the wood would be stained after removal though

Customer Question:

What’s the best way to apply the product?

Homestrip Manufacturer Seller Answer:

The best way to apply is with a paintbrush and a wide one if used on large areas. Other people have used a roller in the past but don’t think you will get a good enough even application. Also, follow this link for more advice on removal – https://www.ecosolutions.co.uk/science-not-solvents-how-to-remove-artex-safely/

Customer Answer:

With a paintbrush

Customer Answer:

I used a thick brush

Customer Answer:

Paintbrush.

Customer Question:

How many walls will this 2.5-litre cover?

Homestrip Manufacturer Seller Answer:

6-9 sq meters 🤙 Approx

Customer Answer:

We used 2 tubs for one room 2.5m x 3m. But the artex was very thick. One tub would probably do 3-4 medium walls if not too thick.

Customer Answer:

Good Morning,
1 Litre will cover up to 2-3 square metres depending on coating and thickness. Hope this helps!

Customer Answer:

I did two to three coats of a ceiling at 4.5 m x 3.5 with one tub

Customer Answer:

One tub should do about 12 square metres. Don’t spread too thin or you’ll have to re-coat. Don’t try and do 12 sqm in one go, do a few metres at a time. Get yourself a wide scraper too.

Customer Question:

How much artex will 1 pot remove?

Homestrip Manufacturer Seller Answer:

Coverage of a 2.5-litre tub of X-Tex is approx. 6-9 sq metres.

Customer Answer:

It depends on the thickness of the artex and also how many layers of emulsion/paint there are. I found the pot went much further if I first removed the paint with a steamer. Also if the x tex dried out at all I wet it down again with water which makes it go further. I did a room 24ft x 12ft with a thick bark effect wall covering.

Customer Answer:

It all depends on how old/thick the coating is – I needed 3 for a small kitchen – but it does work if left on long enough prior to scraping – I’d also recommend a good quality scraper rather than a flimsy paper scraper

Customer Question:

Does this actually work? Got loads of artex all over my house? Do the walls need plastering after?

Homestrip Manufacturer Seller Answer:

Works very well! Please read this link here.

Customer Answer:

You probably know this already but get your Artex tested for asbestos content or assume that it contains asbestos. If it does, keep everything wet while scraping and wear a protective face mask and dust suit. Dispose of any waste as asbestos appropriately. It’s very dangerous stuff. Sorry, had to say this.

My experience is that it’s equivalent to a basic paint stripper. I cut a hatch pattern in my Artex with a Stanley knife, then applied a generous coating of this and then waited 30 minutes. Then re-wet it by spraying water over it, then started scraping. It’s fairly hard work. You don’t need to replaster depending on how good a plastering job is underneath, but you will need to fill any gouges from stripping. If you scrape anything that’s dry, stop. Re-wet with water, let it sit for 5 minutes and start again. You don’t want any dust.

If unlike me, you have plenty of money, you might consider getting a professional in. see less

Customer Answer:

Yes works very well try it on a small patch first, thin artex only needs an hour. If you have carpet remove them, i.e. roll up and take out of the room. It’s an incredibly messy process the old artex gets everywhere. Oh, and if it’s old get it checked for asbestos.

Customer Answer:

Yes but you need to leave it for several hours if the artex is painted or thick. It still needs to be scrapped off, But this helps soften it.

Customer Question:

Will it remove paint from brickwork?

Homestrip Manufacturer Seller Answer:

Your best option for removing paint from brickwork would be our Paint and varnish remover

Customer/Supplier Answer:

The best products to use in the range are EcoSolutions Paint & Varnish remover or Graffiti go. Hope this helps! TTB Supplies

Our X-Tex Artex Remover

Coatings with textured surfaces can be easily removed using our X-Tex Artex Remover utilising a working wet system which makes it safe to do.

Using this method, it is possible to remove textured coatings such as Artex without causing dust that contains asbestos fibres.

Developed using ‘science not solvents’ by Eco Solutions – the world’s most advanced, innovative water-based technology

Instructions For Use:

One of the fastest, easiest, and safest ways to remove Artex is by using X-Tex by Eco Solutions.

You can paint over the artex walls and ceilings with Eco Solutions X-Tex, you then scrape the artex off once it has softened. As a result of this process, the artex remains wet at all times and is known as a working wet system. This eliminates the risk of breathing in hazardous microfibers and prevents asbestos fibres from becoming airborne.

It is easier to remove it with a long-handled blade scraper, as it helps lift it from the surface, rather than spreading it around the wall.

    • Water-Based
    • Ventilation is not necessary
    • Fumes are non-existent
    • There is no risk of burns to the skin

X-Tex can also be applied overnight and covered with foil or plastic film. A foil application prevents X-Tex from drying out, forces the product down, and in most cases softens both the emulsion and the artex simultaneously. This application gets the best results and ensures you the X-Tex goes further.

Available in 2.5-litre tubs.
